Raiatea Mokihana Maile Helm (born ~Raʻiātea Mokihana Maile Helm made history in as Hawai‘i’s first solo female vocalist ever to receive a Grammy Nomination for her sophomore CD “Sweet and Lovely.” And at 21 years old, she was one of the youngest performers to attend the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California.
Ringing in our eighth Raiatea Helm is one of Hawaiʻi’s preeminent female vocalists and keeper of the Hawaiian falsetto tradition (“leo kiʻekiʻe”) of the early to midth century.
Growing up I dreamt
Hawaiian falsetto and classic jazz singer Raiatea Helm was born on Oahu, and raised in Kalamaula, Molokai. She first appeared on the Hawaiian music scene in when she was only 18 years old. Her first album, "Far Away Heaven" amazed longtime aficionados of the Hawaiian falsetto singing style because of the purity and clarity of her voice.Raiatea Helm's recent appearance onto Raiatea is now recognized as one of Hawaiʻi’s premier female vocalists and a keeper of the Hawaiian falsetto tradition of the early to midth century. She has captivated the attention of audiences throughout the Hawaiian Islands and around the world, interpreting traditional Hawaiian songs with classical elegance.
